South Africa is celebrating National Disability Rights Awareness Month from 3 November to 3 December to promote the human and socio-economic rights of peoples with disabilities by making information available and accessible. 3 December is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and is also commemorated as National Disability Rights Awareness Day.

This year’s theme is: “Strengthening Self-Representation: Young people building on the legacy of OR Tambo and Friday Mavuso towards sustainable and resilient society for all.”

The importance of the cabinet approved White Paper on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCPRD) as important building blocks in achieving South Africa’s National Development Plan Vision 2030 will be highlighted.

“Together, through Unity in Action, we build a South Africa that upholds the rights of persons with disabilities.”
