OBJECTIVES
The aims of the Division of Decolonising Psychology:
In addition to the objectives of PsySSA and the functions of divisions as expressed in Articles 2 and 13 respectively of the PsySSA constitution, the mission of the Decolonising Psychology Division is to address the coloniality of psychology and foster antiracist and liberatory knowledges and praxes in South African psychology, and the discipline more broadly. The goals derived from this mission are to be achieved in cooperation with other PsySSA structures, other professional organisations, the general public, and governmental organisations.

What do members receive by becoming members?
- Access to Resources: Members will have access to resources such as research materials, publications, video and audio recordings, and databases related to decolonising psychology.
- Professional Development: The Division will offer members opportunities for continuing professional development, including workshops, webinars and seminars, training programmes and dialogues focused on decolonial approaches within psychology.
- Student Capacity-Building: The Division will facilitate student-centred capacitation and volunteer opportunities towards the development of the next generation of decolonial psychologists.
- Networking: Members may benefit from networking events where they can connect with professionals, researchers, practitioners, community organisers, and other activists interested in decolonising psychology.
- Research Support: The Division will share with members available information on funding, grants and other forms support for research projects or initiatives aligned with the goals of decolonising psychology.
- Advocacy and Representation: Members will be part of a collective voice advocating for decolonial perspectives within the broader field of psychology. Where appropriate, the Division will represent members’ interests in relevant professional forums.
- Publication: The Division will share with members information on publication platforms dedicated to decolonising psychology.
- Community Engagement: The Division will facilitate community engagement opportunities, allowing members to actively contribute to the application of decolonial psychology principles in real-world contexts.
