Interest Groups

What is an Interest Group?

A PsySSA interest group is a specialised subgroup within the Psychological Society of South Africa consisting of members who share a common interest or expertise in a specific area of psychology. These groups facilitate networking, advocacy, professional development, research collaboration, and community building among members with similar interests, aligning with PsySSA’s mission and values to promote excellence and ethical behaviour in psychology in the South African context. They collaborate with various organisations and engage with the public to mobilise support for their causes while operating within legal and ethical guidelines and upholding principles of transparency and accountability in alignment with PsySSA’s core values.

How to formulate an Interest Group

To initiate the formation of an interest group within PsySSA, individuals must hold full membership with PsySSA. If you require further details on how to establish an interest group, please get in touch with the PsySSA Executive Director, Dr. Fatima Seedat, at fatima@psyssa.com. Once an interest group has successfully obtained a minimum of 50 full members, it becomes eligible to apply for divisional status. Divisions can be established when a written request is submitted by the interest group coordinator. This request will be reviewed during a council meeting and subsequently approved at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of that year.
