The Cape Winelands Education District is offering a contract employment opportunity for a Psychologist. This full-time position, from May 1, 2024, to October 31, 2024, involves providing psycho-educational services to approximately 23-25 schools. Requirements include a Master’s Degree in Psychology (Educational, Counselling, Clinical), HPCSA registration, education qualification and experience, and a valid driver’s license. Key responsibilities include training, developing preventative programs, implementing inclusive policies, and providing specialized support. CORE TITLE: MEDICAL SCIENCES AND SUPPORT PERSONNEL

Institution:                    Matzikama Sub-district

(West Coast District) based at Vredendal, Western Cape

Remuneration:            

  • Grade 1: R 790 077 (Level 11) per annum; a portion of the package can be structured according to the individual’s personal needs.
  • Grade 2: R 918 630 (Level 12) per annum; a portion of the package can be structured according to the individual’s personal needs.
  • Grade 3: R1 063 611 (Level 12) per annum; a portion of the package can be structured according to the individual’s personal needs.

Service benefits:

Requirements

Minimum educational qualification:

Appropriate qualification that allows for registration as a Clinical Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)

Note: Candidates who are not in possession of the stipulated registration requirement may also apply. Such candidates will only be considered for appointment on condition that proof of application for registration with the HPCSA and proof of payment of the prescribed registration fees to the Council are submitted with the job application or, if shortlisted, on the day of the interview. This is only applicable to professionals who apply for the first time for registration as Psychologist.

Experience:

Grade 1: No experience

Grade 2: Min of 8 years relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as Psychologist.

Grade 3: Min of 16 years relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as Psychologist.

Inherent requirements of the job:

Valid (Code B/EB) driver’s license (manual)

Willingness to travel.

Competencies (knowledge/skills):

Strong individual and group therapeutic skills.

Experience in working with a multi-disciplinary team and with conducting support groups.

Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Ability to communicate (written and verbal) in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.

Duties (key result areas/outputs):

Responsible for the development and management of a comprehensive and effectively managed psychological service in the Sub-district.

Effective provision of a psychological service at the Primary Health Care Clinics and in the Hospital.

Teaching and training of general and mental health practitioners to deliver appropriate psychological interventions.

Supervision of registered counsellors and community psychologist (where relevant)

Promote mental health to all service users in the Sub-district.
