HPCSA
The Health Professions Council of South Africa is a statutory body established by the Health Professions Act, 56 of 1974. This Act governs all the activities, defines the scope of each profession, and sets processes to be followed by HPCSA in achieving its statutory mandate. As a regulatory body, the HPCSA is mandated to protect the public and guide the professions. Healthcare professions which fall within the ambit of the HPCSA are obliged by the Health Professions Act, 56 of 1974 to register with Council. Failure to do so constitutes a criminal offence.
